Edward Peake School "Values" Banners

Edward Peake C of E Middle School, Biggleswade, and local quilter, Irene Thorn, celebrated a partnership of talent as they unveiled their new values banners on 21st June 2013.

The school is beginning the journey of becoming  a ‘values’ school which promotes positive self-image and attitude to learning, consideration for others and courtesy to all.  Earlier in the year, the children discussed the values they believed were important to them and expressed these through a number of artistic and dramatic media.  Over a hundred children took part in batik, fabric painting and applique workshops to produce a square with their favourite value on.

Irene Thorn of the Log Cabin Quilters, kindly agreed to stitch the children’s work together to make six amazing banners and a piece to be displayed on the piano, all bordered in the school colours of navy and gold.

The Log Cabin Quilters who meet at St Andrew’s Church in Langford, are involved with many charity quilts. Linus quilts for children’s wards in hospitals and quilts for ex-servicemen are two ongoing projects. Irene’s quilt-making has also achieved European acclaim, as she has exhibited a ‘Dear Jane’ quilt which took three years to make, in France.

The school is looking forward to beginning its whole school values education fully in September and making further links with the wider community.
